From Digital Complexity to Intelligent Control: Reflections from the Digital Enterprise CIO Transformation Assembly

By: Ashish Kumar Saxena, Chief Growth Officer

The pressure on enterprise CIOs has never been more acute. Move faster. Scale AI. Control costs. Prove compliance. Do it all simultaneously, across systems that were never designed to work together and without a safety net.

That tension took center stage at the Digital Enterprise CIO Transformation Assembly in Miami last month, where CoreStack’s Chief Growth Officer, Ashish Saxena joined a distinguished group of enterprise technology leaders, including Pretti Badri, a veteran digital transformation leader, Ryan Blackwell, SVP of Global RunOps at Neurealm, and Mike Lee, VP at Taylor Farms, for a panel discussion on one of the most pressing questions facing the industry today: How do you move from digital complexity to intelligent control?

Before the conversation began, a live survey polled the CIOs in the room to identify their most pressing operating challenge. The results were telling: 37% cited governance and compliance gaps, 26% pointed to unpredictable cloud costs, 22% to fragmented platform visibility, and 15% to operational risk and complexity.

The message was clear. This is no longer a technology problem. It is a governance problem.

Why This Transformation Feels Different
Where past digital transformations like moving to the cloud and integrating smart devices to the Internet of Things (IoT) had clear endpoints, AI transformation is continuous. The business now comes to IT leaders with tool ideas and expectations. The challenge for technology leaders is ensuring that any new solutions implemented are compliant, secure, and governed at scale.

What Intelligent Control Actually Looks Like
A recurring theme across the panel was the shift from reactive governance to continuous, autonomous control, and what that means for humans in the loop.

Ryan Blackwell's team at Neurealm is already living in this reality. Focused on supporting hospitals and critical healthcare infrastructure, Neurealm is deploying agentic systems for firewall hygiene that run 11,000 health checks every 90 seconds using CoreStack. His team has systematically removed human bottlenecks from routine governance decisions.

Mike Lee shared how Taylor Farms made the leap from visibility to action. After cloud costs grew fourfold in a single year, his team deployed CoreStack to turn fragmented telemetry from cloud consumption into automated governance workflows. “CoreStack made it actionable. It turned optimization insights into tickets tied to our ServiceNow environment, and the ROI has been around 2X in just six months.”

The Shift Boards Need to Make in the AI Era
The closing question Ashish posed to the panel cut to the heart of the governance challenge at the executive level: What mindset shift do boards and senior leadership need to make to lead responsibly into the AI era?

The answers were direct. Pretti Badri argued that governance should be treated as non-negotiable. Panelists agreed that leading in the AI era will require real changes to human capital strategy and an increased tolerance for risk.

The common thread: enterprises that govern proactively will scale with confidence, while those that don't will find themselves managing consequences instead of outcomes.

The Takeaway for Enterprise CIOs

The Digital Enterprise CIO Assembly reinforced a conviction CoreStack holds: governance is now the operating system for the modern enterprise. As Ashish noted during his remarks, “Governance is not there to slow down innovation, but speed cannot come at the cost of trust and resilience.”

As AI agents proliferate, cloud environments scale, and board expectations intensify, the organizations that win will be those that have built governance into infrastructure itself in a manner that is continuous, intelligent, and measurable.
